Ultimate Software has an entry in the HR software solution market, and it’s called UltiPro. It’s designed to handle many different HR functions from payroll to talent management that is deployed in cloud-based SaaS. It touts its human capital management (HCM) solution as covering everything a company needs to manage an employee from recruitment to retirement.
It’s different modules include talent acquisition, on-boarding, payroll and benefits management, performance reviews, attendance and time reporting, succession planning, and real-time reporting on a variety of HR metrics. Security options allow users to manage access based on their roles, from executives to managers to regular employees. Its 24/7 mobile access capability means you’re never without a view of what’s happening with your most important resource – your employees. Scalable to fit companies of any size in all kinds of industries, UltiPro’s 2,300+ company customers include Adobe Systems, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Elizabeth Arden. By consolidating everything related to HR in one system, UltiPro offers the opportunity to streamline and automate many HR functions.
Pros
Several customer reviews note that the software is largely easy to use, with good directions offered on many screens, making it seem less complicated than other solutions. The user interface has also been described by some as pleasing and clean, including good choices in colors. Others highlight the peace of mind they feel around compliance with federal and state taxes and not having to set up deductions for each employee. They also like the automatically generated pay statements and W2s. Being able to access payroll and benefits information from anywhere users have an Internet connection was also mentioned as a key feature.
Cons
While many users seem largely pleased with the software, a substantial number of complaints bring its overall ratings down quite a lot. Perhaps the most common complaint among user reviews is the reporting feature. Some don’t like the formatting of the canned reports, or the fact that some of the reports do not provide totals for much of the data included, and the generally limited nature of what’s available without time-consuming and costly “custom” modifications. Another common complaint has to do with the benefits management piece, which many feel is quite lacking. Anyone whose focus is primarily benefits administration is going to be disappointed with UtilPro. Compared to some of the features, others note that the back-office parts seem confusing because of all the abbreviations and acronyms used. Others note that punching in and out is surprisingly tricky for regular employees, forcing managers to make lots of corrections for their direct reports.
While some users are pleased with UtilPro, many more have a substantial list of complaints that don’t appear to be addressed very rapidly by the company. From better reporting to a better benefits portal to more responsive support, UtilPro has a long ways to go before it can be considered a robust HR software solution.
