In the legal management software market, Coyote Analytics offers a solution to meet the financial management needs of law firms in either an on-premise or web-based deployment. Besides such financial modules as billing, accounting, and administration, it also includes many other management tools to assist with time entry, reporting, CRM, case management, document management, and calendaring. This is a software system designed by accountants, so its financial management functionality is robust, including the creation of monthly budgets, amortization over a year, and easy cut-and-paste both from and to Excel spreadsheets.
In addition, electronic biling includes worksheets that can be edited from a preview mode for any adjustments that need to be made to fees, expenses, and so on. Case management is accomplished with full history tracking that alerts users to important events. Information relevant to a particular case can quickly be pulled up through a hotkey stroke, giving users a snapshot of the case and all its information. Billable hours can be easily captured through the Time Entry module, including via mobile apps and multiple timers open simultaneously. A convenient dashboard widget allows the user to choose a client from a list or make an entry via pre-populate fields. Customizable compliance rules streamlines the billing process. This solution is appropriate for smaller and mid-sized firms that have up to 100 users who need to track billable hours of any specialty field of law. It is Mac and iPad compatible as well.
Users generally find the system both easy to learn and use. They appreciate how the software allows them to track a variety of statistic by case, file, client, and so on, and how easy it is to compile this information for specific clients. At least one user specifically noted that being able to “un-finalize” a bill is a feature not often found in the accounting modules of other solutions, but is a must-have for them, which goes to show how this solution was developed by accountants. Many users noted that support is always generous with their time in helping them solve issues that come up.
Some users do find the system very intuitive at first, but once they get used to it they seem to agree that it’s one of the most robust time tracking solutions out there. Some users have complained that they seem to sometimes need to re-enter file matter repeatedly and change dates, while others feel that at times there are too many fields or options for data entry. This has led others to note that getting data entered is not a very fast process, and that there should be a way to remove at least one step from the process to speed it up. Other users note that they often need to refer to other users’ time entries and then switch back to their time entry, but that the process of doing that is cumbersome.
This is one case where beyond a few small wish-list items, users are very pleased with Coyote Analytics for its robust functionality and ease of use, and especially the support provided.
